Mobile App - How Do I Use the Mobile App?

Walk through what learners see and do in the Knowledge Anywhere Mobile App. Understand where the mobile experience differs from the web LMS, and what to expect and what not to expect.

Note: The screenshots in this article were taken on a Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Minor visual differences may occur depending on mobile device.

1. Logging In

The First Time

The first time you open the app, you’ll see two screens:

  1. Enter your subdomain - this will be something like company.knowledgeanywhere.com. This is the same URL you’d use to get to your LMS in a browser, just the subdomain part, which is that company part of the URL in the image below. Once you type it in, you’ll see your organization’s branding appear, and the right login method load up.
  2. Log in - depending on how your organization has things set up, you’ll either see a single SSO button (which pops open your company’s login flow) or the classic email + password

Every Time After

The app remembers your subdomain so you don’t have to retype it. It also keeps your session alive locally, which is what makes it possible to log in offline and still get at your downloaded courses.

2. Where You Land After Logging In

This is a small thing that matters more than it sounds: the app checks whether you have a connection, and sends you to the most useful page accordingly.

If you’re…

You’ll land on…

Online

The Content Catalog

Offline

Your My Courses > Downloads page

The reason for this is simple: if you’re offline, the full catalog can’t load, but your downloaded courses are right there ready to go. So you’re sent straight to them instead of making you stare at a loading spinner.

What’s different from the web LMS

The web LMS always takes you to the learner homepage. The mobile app’s connection-aware landing page is specific to the mobile experience.

3. The Content Catalog

When you’re online, the Content Catalog is your home base. It’s the mobile app’s replacement for the /learning-paths/ page in the web LMS. It’s the same idea, just designed for a phone or tablet.

How it’s organized

There are two tabs at the top:

  • Learning Paths - all your learning paths shown as cards. If you have a Directed Learning path, it’ll always be first in the list.
  • Courses - a flat view of every course across every path, if you’d rather browse courses directly instead of going through their paths.

Tapping a Learning Path takes you to a second page that shows every course inside it.

What the cards show you

Cards show different information depending on whether they’re a Learning Path or an individual course.

Learning Path cards show:

  • The thumbnail and title
  • Whether the path is Required or Elective
  • An overall progress wheel
  • A breakdown of courses inside, how many are Past Due, In Progress, Completed, or Not Started

Course cards show:

  • The thumbnail (styled to match what you’d see in the web app)
  • The title
  • What type of course it is (eLearning, Self Study, Classroom, Assessment, Video, LinkedIn Course, OpenSesame Course)
  • Status (Not Started, In Progress, Completed) with a progress bar
  • A Past Due indicator if applicable

4. Searching and Filtering

The search bar lives in the top-right of every page, so it’s always one tap away. Search is live, results appear as you type and it looks across course titles, descriptions, and tags.

Filters for courses

You can narrow what you’re browsing by any of the following:

  • How it was assigned: Elective, Required, Directly Assigned
  • Course type: eLearning, Self Study, Classroom, Assessment, Video, LinkedIn Course, OpenSesame Course
  • Status: Past Due, Due Soon, In Progress, Not Started, Completed
  • Duration: No duration specified, Under 10 minutes, 10–19 minutes, 20–30 minutes, Over 30 minutes
  • Credit eligibility (if relevant to your program): With Credits, Without Credits

A Clear Filters button wipes everything and starts you over.

Search results

Results are designed to make it obvious what you’re looking at. Each result shows:

  • An object type label (so you can immediately tell a Learning Path from a Course)
  • Thumbnail, title, and a snippet of description
  • For courses: progress status
  • For Learning Paths: how many courses are inside
  • Rating, duration, and credits where applicable

You can sort by Relevance (the default), Title A–Z, Title Z–A, Rating, or Type.

Search and filters are functionally the same as the web LMS, but in the mobile app the search bar is anchored persistently to every page so you never have to hunt for it.

5. Getting Around the App

The app uses a consistent layout everywhere you go:

  • Top of every page: your organization’s logos and the search button
  • Bottom navigation: Content Catalog, Help/Support/Legal
  • Menu items include:
    • Help / Support (an external link to the LMS support center, or wherever your organization directs learners)
    • Language Selector (unless your tenant has locked this)
    • Legal: Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and EULA

The web LMS has deeper menus because it has more to expose, such as admin areas, reporting, management tools. The mobile app keeps navigation simple because its job is simpler: find your training, do your training.

6. Language

This section covers the language used by the app itself. For switching the language of an individual course, see Taking a Course in the Mobile App

The app’s interface

The app picks a language for its interface in this order:

  • Your LMS profile language, if you’ve set one
  • Your device’s language, if there’s no profile setting
  • Your organization’s default LMS language as the last resort

You can switch languages yourself from the in-app menu, unless your admin has locked that choice.

The mobile app can also read your device’s language as a fallback, something the browser version can’t do.

8. Details and Nuances

  • Registration behavior depends on your organization’s login method. Organizations using SSO won't see Register or Forgot Password options because authentication is managed by their identity provider. Organizations using email/password login can register from the app, but the registration experience opens in a browser popup rather than appearing directly within the app.
  • Offline learning scenarios such as working without an internet connection, traveling on flights, switching between devices, or handling expired downloads are covered in Taking a Course in the Mobile App.
  • The mobile app is portrait-only on both phones and tablets. Videos can still be viewed in landscape mode.
  • When launching the app offline, you'll be taken directly to the Downloads page instead of the Content Catalog, since downloaded content is the only content available without a connection.
  • SSO organizations will not see Register or Forgot Password options in the app. Authentication, registration, and password management are handled entirely by the organization's identity provider.
  • Administrative tools and reporting features are not available in the mobile app. This is intentional and not a missing feature.
  • Organization branding is applied automatically from your LMS theme settings, so logos, colors, and other branding elements should appear without requiring any additional mobile app configuration.
