(V) How do I assign prerequisites to courses in learning paths?

To ensure a structured learning experience, guide learners in completing courses in a specific order by assigning prerequisites in the LMS.

To access this feature, you need to locate the learning path to which the course is assigned. Once you have found the learning path, select "Assign Prerequisites" next to the course for which you want to set prerequisites. From there, you can assign the prerequisite courses that need to be completed before accessing the selected course.

To view and assign prerequisites for any course within a learning path, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Administrative Dashboard and click on Content on the side menu.
  2. Under the Organize Content top menu section, select Learning Paths.
  3. Search for the desired learning path and click on its name.
  4. In the Learning Path Details page, navigate to the "Courses" tab.
  5. in the Courses tab, you will notice a Priority column on the left, which represents the order in which the courses appear on the learner site.
  6. Select Prerequisites on the right to assign a prerequisite to that course. 

To prioritize courses, drag the up-down icon to the desired row. Check the number of prerequisites associated with each course before assigning them.

How to add a prerequisite

  1. Click on the number hyperlink in the Prerequisites column. This will open a panel displaying the available courses that can be chosen as prerequisites.
  2. Choose the appropriate prerequisite course and click "Apply". The chosen course will now be set as a prerequisite for the course you started with.
  3. Repeat these steps for each course that requires a prerequisite. Once you have assigned the prerequisites, don't forget to click "Save" to ensure that the changes are applied.

 

To view and assign prerequisites for any course within a learning path

  1. From Administrative Dashboard, click Content on the Side menu
  2. Under Organize Content top menu section, click Learning Paths
  3. Search for a learning path, then click on its name
  4. In the Learning Path Details page, click on Courses tab
  5. In the Courses grid (shown below), notice that there is a Priority column, which is the ordering that the courses appears in on the learner site.
  6. The best practice is to prioritize the courses in the ordering that the learner will take the courses.
    You can re-prioritize the courses by dragging the up-down icon to the desired row
  7. At this point, if you wish to assign pre-requisites to any of the courses, first see how many pre-requisites are associated with that course
  8. To add a prerequisite, click on the number hyperlink in the Prerequisites column. This opens a panel showing the possible courses you can pick as the prerequisite.

  9. Choose a course, then click Apply:


  10. That chosen course is now a prerequisite for the course you started with 

  11. Repeat the steps for each course that requires a prerequisite
  12. Click Save
